ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 3, 2010 — Navitar Inc. announced it was awarded a contract with the Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio (DSCC) for a multi-element lens assembly to be used by the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAVAIR) of Lakehurst, N.J.

The lens assembly was approved for use in the Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) of US Navy aircraft carriers, specifically within the Optical Landing System (OLS).

Originating with optical company Buhl Optical of Pittsburgh, PA, the lens assembly was later acquired by Navitar in 1997. The lenses were first manufactured by Buhl for the Navy in 1989.

Working with NAVAIR, Navitar’s engineers made slight modifications and improvements to their specifications. In addition, an update to the lens design was done to meet the standards for today.

Navitar manufactures standard and custom engineered optics, opto-mechanical subassemblies and opto-electronic system solutions for medical, biotechnology, defense and security, military, government, semiconductor, industrial imaging and digital projection.
