Naval Research Laboratory scientists have developed a beamformer for time-delay steering of a two-dimensional transmitter array. The beamformer is located on a phased array antenna, which resembles a small satellite dish, and distributes microwave signals over a network. Unlike previous beamformers, the Naval Research Laboratory's offering provides more control in adjusting the timing and amplitude of signals, according to Michael Frankel, one of the researchers involved in the project.
