Nanopositioning Specialist Granted Supply Contract for Large Telescope

Physik Instrumente GmbH & Co. of Karlsruhe, Germany, will supply more than 280 custom nanopositioning actuators and multiaxis motion controllers under a contract from SALT, the Southern African Large Telescope, based near Sutherland, South Africa. The telescope, which has a hexagonal mirror array that is 11 m across, will be used to record stars, galaxies and quasars too faint to be seen with unaided human vision.
