Nanopoint Appoints M. Powell as Chief Scientist

Nanopoint Inc., a Honolulu-based biotech company developing a better microscope, has hired Michael Powell, a researcher in the fields of catalytic antibodies, electrochemiluminescence and cell-based assays, as its chief scientist. Powell co-founded Odyssey Thera Inc., a developer of new technology for the imaging of signal transduction pathways in live cells, and he set up the US arm of Britain-based Smart Holograms Inc., a biosensor company. He also previously worked at life science firms Boehringer Mannheim and Roche Diagnostics.

An instrument consisting essentially of a tube 160 mm long, with an objective lens at the distant end and an eyepiece at the near end. The objective forms a real aerial image of the object in the focal plane of the eyepiece where it is observed by the eye. The overall magnifying power is equal to the linear magnification of the objective multiplied by the magnifying power of the eyepiece.
