TROY, N.Y., June 6, 2006 -- CornerStone Telephone Co., a Troy, N.Y.-based communications provider, announced today it has purchased Butler Communications of Charleton, N.Y. The acquisition enables CornerStone to act as a certified NEC subcontractor and expands its business base to include large enterprise accounts, the company said. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the terms of their agreement, Butler Communications' owner and founder, Rick Butler, will join CornerStone as senior service technician. His responsibilities will include technical support of major accounts throughout New York and Massachusetts.

CornerStone also recently acquired Johnstown-based Telecon, which laid the groundwork for expansion west to Syracuse and North to Watertown, and teamed with Fibertech Networks of Rochester to provide Internet, data and voice services. It said it is the only locally owned and operated competitive local exchange carrier to install a fully functional Class 5 soft switch to transmit integrated voice and data services.

CornerStone also recently announced an agreement with Ellis Hospital to install an antenna on the facility’s roof in order to provide wireless internet service to the city of Schenectady. Wireless internet access in Troy is scheduled to launch within the next month, it said. The company also has offices in Poughkeepsie, Utica, New York City, Carlisle, Pa., and in Springfield and Pittsfield, Mass.
