A research team at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., will develop photonic crystal fiber nanosensors with a $1.3 million grant from the National Science Foundation, based in Arlington, Va. The academic and industrial team, led by Henry Du, has initiated work on integrating the fibers with nanoscale technologies, which could improve chemical and biological sensing devices. The researchers will use laser techniques, computer simulation and molecular and nanoscale surface modification in their effort to enhance the fiber sensors, sensor arrays and networks for various applications.
