A facility has been established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in response to the lack of standard tests to verify manufacturers’ performance specifications of three-dimensional imaging devices. Besides an artifact-based facility, NIST operates an indoor 60-m range calibration center and is developing a separate 3-D space for manufacturers and research groups to send instruments for spatial calibration. An outdoor ranging facility also is being established for performance evaluation of 3-D imaging systems.
