Molex Acquires Fiberguide Industries

Connectivity and electronics solutions provider Molex acquired Fiberguide Industries, the Caldwell, Idaho-based manufacturer of optical fiber solutions. The deal is worth $38 million, according to the London Stock Exchange.

Fiberguide had been owned by Halma plc, a British group of safety equipment companies. It will join Molex’s Polymicro business, located in Phoenix. Molex’s Polymicro business is a provider of specialty optical fiber and fluidic-based products for medical, industrial, and datacom applications.

“Our combined capabilities give global customers a full array of products and complete solutions to meet emerging requirements for innovative laser-based optical systems,” said Jim Clarkin, general manager of Polymicro. The acquisition supports Molex’s ability to deliver solutions for medical applications, including high-power laser surgery, DNA sequencing, and flow cytometry, as well as datacom applications requiring reliable performance in harsh environments.

Per the transaction, Molex will develop centers of optical fiber excellence in Phoenix and Caldwell to support new business opportunities from concept to production.
