Mike Davenport Named President of Rochester Precision Optics
Rochester Precision Optics promoted Mike Davenport to company president, effective Sept. 21. Davenport previously served as RPO’s vice president of operations.
The promotion follows the announcement that Randy Shaw, who had served as company president, is retiring in December. Shaw will serve as a senior adviser to the president to ensure a smooth transition before retiring. Davenport’s role as vice president of operations involved direct leadership over the majority of RPO’s workforce and spearheading the introduction of new and advanced manufacturing methods.
Prior to joining RPO, Davenport worked with Shaw and RPO’s ownership in a variety of leadership capacities at organizations such as Insight Technology (now L3Harris).

Glossary
- glass
- A noncrystalline, inorganic mixture of various metallic oxides fused by heating with glassifiers such as silica, or boric or phosphoric oxides. Common window or bottle glass is a mixture of soda, lime and sand, melted and cast, rolled or blown to shape. Most glasses are transparent in the visible spectrum and up to about 2.5 µm in the infrared, but some are opaque such as natural obsidian; these are, nevertheless, useful as mirror blanks. Traces of some elements such as cobalt, copper and...
- freeform optics
- Freeform optics refers to the design and fabrication of optical surfaces that do not follow traditional symmetric shapes, such as spheres or aspheres. Unlike standard optical components with symmetric and rotationally invariant surfaces, freeform optics feature non-rotationally symmetric and often complex surfaces. These surfaces can be tailored to meet specific optical requirements, offering greater flexibility in designing optical systems and achieving improved performance.
