Microchip Technology Acquires Neuronix AI Labs
CHANDLER, Ariz., April 22, 2024 — Microchip Technology, a provider of smart, connected, and secure embedded control solutions, has acquired Neuronix AI Labs. The acquisition expands Microchip's capabilities for power-efficient, AI-enabled edge solutions deployed on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Neuronix AI Labs provides neural network sparsity optimization technology that enables a reduction in power, size, and calculations for image classification, object detection, and semantic segmentation applications.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Specifically, Microchip said, the addition of Neuronix’s portfolio will enable development of cost-effective, large-scale edge deployments of components designed for use in computer-vision applications on systems with cost, size, and power constraints.
Microchip further expects that the combination of Neuronix AI IP and Microchip's existing compilers and software design kits will allow non-FPGA designers parallel processing capabilities using industry-standard AI frameworks without requiring in-depth knowledge of FPGA design flow. It also expects the acquisition to support the implementation of AI/machine learning algorithms on customizable FPGA logic without resistor-transition level expertise and upgrading convolutional neural networks without reprogram hardware.
