FlorianBazantHegemark.jpgOrpington, England-based optical coherence tomography (OCT) equipment maker Michelson Diagnostics Ltd. (MDL) announced the appointment of Dr. Florian Bazant-Hegemark as senior imaging scientist. Bazant-Hegemark has been working on OCT in the biophotonics research group at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and in 2007 co-authored a landmark article in BiophotonicsInternational. In his new position, Bazant-Hegemark will work closely with customers to help them capture and analyze data from MDL’s multibeam OCT scanners to solve clinical and scientific challenges such as skin cancer diagnosis, blood flow imaging and in vivo imaging of fruitfly hearts for genetics research. To obtain his PhD, he studied OCT for the management of cervical precancer. He also has an MSc in medical diagnostics from Cranfield University and a Dipl-Ing (equivalent to BSc+MEng) in food science and biotechnology from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna.

Glossary
optical coherence tomography
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique used in medical and scientific fields to capture high-resolution, cross-sectional images of biological tissues. It provides detailed, real-time, and three-dimensional visualization of tissue structures at the micrometer scale. OCT is particularly valuable in ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, and various other medical specialties. Here are the key features and components of optical coherence tomography: Principle of...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
