NEW YORK, Oct. 12 -- Metromedia Fiber Network has signed a dark fiber agreement valued at over $300 million with WinStar Communications, the second such agreement between the two companies. Metromedia Fiber also announced plans to expand its US intra-city network to 25 markets, including the six recently announced infrastructure builds in the metropolitan areas of Denver, Phoenix, St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland and Miami. These expansions will increase Metromedia Fiber's total planned coverage to more than 40 North American and European markets.WinStar will utilize Metromedia Fiber's dark fiber infrastructure to expand its presence in local markets, interconnecting its switches and hubs over a completely photonic network. The agreement calls for WinStar to receive dark fiber in substantially all of Metromedia Fiber's planned US networks, several previously announced European dark fiber networks, and its German National Ring.
