HAMAMATSU, Japan, March 24, 2021 — Menlo Systems has opened a Japanese subsidiary, Menlo Systems KK, in Hamamatsu. The optical frequency comb manufacturer and supplier of high-precision metrology instrumentation, headquartered in Germany, said the subsidiary allows the company to develop its Japanese market with the support of its partner, Hamamatsu Photonics. The company cited the emerging commercialization of quantum technologies on a global scale in a press release announcing its launch of the subsidiary.

Hamamatsu Deutschland purchased a minority stake in Menlo Systems in 2019. Beyond optical frequency combs, Menlo Systems provides terahertz systems and femtosecond lasers.

quantum
The term quantum refers to the fundamental unit or discrete amount of a physical quantity involved in interactions at the atomic and subatomic scales. It originates from quantum theory, a branch of physics that emerged in the early 20th century to explain phenomena observed on very small scales, where classical physics fails to provide accurate explanations. In the context of quantum theory, several key concepts are associated with the term quantum: Quantum mechanics: This is the branch of...
