Medical device giant Medtronic Inc. has acquired Visualase Inc. of Houston for $105 million.

Visualase, which had been privately held, is the creator of an FDA-approved MRI-guided laser and image-guided system for minimally invasive neurosurgery, including surgical thermal ablation. This technology will be added to Medtronic’s surgical technology business.

Medtronic said it expects the net impact from this transaction to be neutral to fiscal 2015 earnings and accretive thereafter.
