Media Cybernetics, Smithsonian Collaborate for Image Analysi

Under a partnership agreement, the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Materials Research and Education will work with software packages from Media Cybernetics Inc. of Silver Spring, Md. The tools will help the Smithsonian with its research into objects and artifacts of historical significance, and with archiving digital imagery of the items in its collection.

The Image-Pro Plus 5.0 image analysis software offers data extraction and display capabilities for creating usable data from a single image or a multi-image set, while the IQBase database program focuses on information derived from the images. Initially, the center, which is based in Suitland, Md., will use the tools to analyze and forensically identify objects that are related to American Indian cultures.
