Meadowlark Optics Acquires Boulder Nonlinear Systems

Meadowlark Optics has announced its acquisition of Boulder Nonlinear Systems (BNS). Both companies are based in Colorado and produce optical components used in numerous scientific research fields and industries. Meadowlark previously purchased the commercial Spatial Light Modulator business from BNS in 2014. Meadowlark is a manufacturer of polarization solution components, including liquid crystal shutters, rotators, and spatial light modulators for wavelengths ranging from the UV to the MWIR. The company will be gaining additional products to expand upon the spatial light modulators and liquid crystal polarization products, which will now include switchable gratings.

Glossary
liquid crystal
Liquid crystals are a state of matter that exhibits properties intermediate between those of conventional liquids and solid crystals. In a liquid crystal, the molecules are ordered like those in a crystal, but they can still flow like a liquid. This unique combination of structural order and fluidity gives liquid crystals their distinctive characteristics and makes them valuable in various technological applications, particularly in display technology. Key features and characteristics of...
spatial light modulator
A spatial light modulator (SLM) is an optical device that modulates or manipulates the amplitude, phase, or polarization of light in two dimensions, typically in the form of an array. SLMs are versatile tools used in various optical applications, including adaptive optics, optical signal processing, holography, and imaging. There are different types of SLMs, each with its own operating principle: Liquid crystal spatial light modulators (LC-SLM): These SLMs use liquid crystal technology to...
