Optical components manufacturer Optimax Systems Inc. of Ontario, N.Y., has expanded its capability of manufacturing high-precision spheres and aspheres with the acquisition of QED’s Q22-Y machine. With the magnetorheological finishing (MRF) system, the company has increased speed and accuracy, and has produced results better than λ/20 peak-to-valley on diameters up to 200 mm or greater. It will leverage the machine to extend its capabilities to include prisms, and free-form and cylindrical optics.
