Based on analysis of the 2004 sales figures of 30 manufacturers of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) worldwide, a report published by Yole Développement of Lyon, France, shows not only strong industry activity in the automotive fields and in the information technology business, but also the emergence of contract manufacturers.Titled "MIS 05: Status of the MEMS Industry," the 2005 publication analyzes recent mergers and acquisitions in the industry. It concludes that contract manufacturers are becoming more credible, that systems manufacturers are seeking to outsource their fabrications, and that nonfabrication businesses are finding companies able to manufacture cost-effectively. Company profiles and analyses of emerging MEMS applications and markets are among other material presented in the report.
