Under a $1.5 million multiyear contract with Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Michigan Aerospace Corp. (MAC), a provider of optical products and advanced engineering services, will develop a geostationary imaging Fabry-Perot spectrometer. The device will be used aboard a Learjet 25C aircraft as a precursor to the production of a spaceflight instrument. Based on proprietary lidar technology, it measures cloud-top temperature, pressure and altitude on a global scale.

Michigan Aerospace is based in Ann Arbor.
