MURRAY HILL, N.J., Oct. 29 -- Lucent Technologies plans to divide into four parts in a bid to focus on the high-growth areas of optical networking, wireless communications, semiconductors and e-business. The company reported that its new sections are to be called Enterprise Networks, Service Provider Networks, Microelectronics and Communications Technologies, and NetCare Professional Services. The four new divisions will continue to operate under the Lucent umbrella and will be headed by current Lucent executives.
Four years ago, we set out a vision for the networks of the future and have worked relentlessly to become the world leader in communications networking, said Richard McGinn, Lucent Technologies chairman and CEO. Today, we are focused on continuing our growth and share gain in the face of light-speed market changes, increasingly complex networks, and fortunately a wealth of opportunity. McGinn continued, The realignment is intended to mirror the way we are approaching customers today -- with converged network solutions. We are sharpening our focus on high-growth areas -- such as data networking, optical networking, wireless, semiconductors, e-business and professional services -- while speeding our growth in international markets. And, we will also be aligning our management structure to increase productivity and accelerate our response to customer needs.
