BRONDBY, Denmark, June 23 -- Lucent Technologies inaugurated a $20 million (US) optical fiber manufacturing facility at its main fiber production site in Brøndby, Denmark. The company will also invest an additional $110 million in the facility and hire another 250 employees by the end of 2002, said Lucent. This investment in production at Brondby will help us meet the growing demand for optical fiber used in optical high-speed communications networks throughout Europe, said Denys Gounot, president of Lucent Technologies' Optical Fibre Solutions. The optical fiber being produced here is being used to help carriers grow their bandwidth capacity in order to meet the ever-expanding needs of business and consumers. The new facility is part of Lucent's $1 billion world wide program announced earlier this year to add manufacturing capacity to its optical fiber and cable factories in Germany, China, Thailand, Russia, Brazil and the U.S.
