Communications systems provider Lucent Technologies announced today that it was awarded a prime contract with the US Army as part of its new Infrastructure Modernization (IMOD) contract. Lucent was one of 10 prime contractors selected for the project, which has a total ceiling of $4 billion. Under the scope of the contract, Lucent will work to develop and install a next-generation multivendor communications infrastructure at selected Army installations around the world. The contract has a base five-year award term and one additional five-year award term potential option period. The IMOD contract will replace the telecommunications switch modernization effort of the Digital Switched Systems Modernization Program (DSSMP). IMOD aims to create integrated, secure communications systems for Army bases and installations, and relies heavily on network transformation and migration to newer technologies, including Internet Protocol version 6, Lucent said.
