LASER World of PHOTONICS 2019, one of the largest photonics trade shows in Europe, will be held in Munich June 24-27. The biennial event will feature the latest in photonics research, technology, and applications. The fair will take place across five buildings and will be broken into seven focal areas: imaging; sensors, test and measurement/optical measurement systems; lasers and laser systems for production engineering; optics/manufacturing technology for optics; lasers and optoelectronics; biophotonics and medical engineering; and optical information and communication. West entrance, LASER World of PHOTONICS The application panels, which occur simultaneously, will be divided into three categories: biophotonics and medical applications/optical metrology and imaging; laser and optics; and laser materials processing. Highlights from the laser and optics application panels include: CW Diode Pumped Solid State Lasers and Fiber Lasers, June 24, 3 p.m. Optical Quantum Technologies 1: Sensing and Computing, June 26, 1 p.m. Optical Quantum Technologies 2: Imaging and Communication, June 26, 3 p.m. From the laser materials processing application panels: Modelling and Simulation of Laser Material Processes, June 24, 10 a.m. Smart Production of Metallic Parts by Additive Manufacturing, June 26, 10 a.m. Lasers in Microelectronics: The Future Is Digital, June 27, 10 a.m. Other programs include: The Make Light MAKEATHON, where competing teams create a photonic prototype within 24 hours; the International Laser Marketplace, which provides information about the markets and applications of the latest laser technology; and an awards ceremony to honor new companies and young scientists for their achievements in the field. The accompanying World of Photonics Congress 2019, also occurring June 23-27, will have imaging-themed subconferences. Imaging and Applied Optics will cover computer-aided imaging processes for optical sensors and imaging, mathematical principles, and environmental influences. Digital Optical Technologies by SPIE Europe will discuss mixed, virtual, and augmented realities. LASER World of PHOTONICS brought in almost 1300 exhibitors in 2017 — international stakeholders in the field of photonics in 10 different sectors: illumination and energy; biophotonics and medical engineering; manufacturing technology for optics; imaging; lasers and laser systems for production engineering; lasers and optoelectronics; optics; optical information and communication; sensors, test and measurement, and optical measurement systems; and security. The fair’s website shows more than 1000 exhibitors registered to attend this year’s event. The 2017 show saw more than 32,700 visitors, hailing from 73 countries scattered across four continents, and had 5600 congress and application panel participants, and about 3000 congress lectures and presentations.
