Laser Baggage Scanner Project Receives Funding

TORONTO, Ontario, May 13 -- IDS has been granted funding for Phase II development of its computer-controlled laser rastering system designed to scan, sample and analyze baggage in conjunction with regular X-ray baggage scanners. In developing this system, IDS received research and development support from Transport Canada and the US Government, which have formed an ongoing joint US-Canadian R&D initiative seeking to use technology to improve air travel safety.
Development of a prototype for in-service trials is now underway, said Andy Rybak, executive vice president of IDS. This innovative system should please everyone: security and airport authorities and personnel, because of its accuracy, speed, ease-of-use and cost-effectiveness; and travelers, because its is less intrusive and faster than current inspections.
