Kollsman Awarded Marine Contract
HAIFA, Israel, Dec. 12 -- Kollsman Inc., a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, an international defense electronics company in Haifa, Israel, was awarded initial orders worth $33.6 million to provide high-performance thermal binocular system long-range thermal imagers (LRTI) for the US Marine Corps.
The LRTI is a portable binocular, handheld, battery-operated thermal imager for long-range observation and reconnaissance. Initial deliveries will be made in 2006 and 2007.
Under the contract, the US government may purchase up to 5000 LRTIs as well as spare parts, contractor maintenance and training items over five years, with the potential for up to $250 million in additional orders.
Kollsman provides electro-optical and avionics systems to US and foreign commercial and military markets. Most of the work under the contract will be performed at its Merrimack, N.H., headquarters, with support from Electro-Optics Elop Ltd., a Fort Worth, Texas, Elbit Systems subsidiary.
