NORTHAMPTON, Mass., Aug. 25 -- Kollmorgen Electro-Optical Corp., based in Northampton, Mass., was awarded a $13,750,000 contract by the Naval Sea Systems Command to make 11 MK46 optical sight systems, which provide day- and night-vision capabilities for the Navy's Arleigh Burke class of guided missile destroyers. The systems enable 24-hour surveillance, intelligence gathering and reconnaissance.
Work will be performed in Northampton and in Brattleboro, Vt., and is expected to be completed by December 2007. The contract includes systems for the US Navy and Coast Guard and the governments of South Korea and Japan under the Foreign Military Sales program.
Kollmorgen Electro-Optical, a division of Danaher Corp., has been the primary designer of US Navy submarine periscopes since 1916.
