ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 30 -- Eastman Kodak Co. has licensed its organic LED technology to Ritek Corp. of Taiwan for use in flat panel passive organic LED displays. Included in Ritek's royalty-bearing license are the passive monochrome and multi-color displays that are used in cell phones, PDA's, audio/video boards, high value-added toys/games and other devices. The agreement also gives Ritek the option of purchasing Kodak's organic LED materials to manufacture the displays. Kodak's organic LED has the ability to change electric current to luminescent light in device structures made from specifically designed organic thin film materials. The light can be given off as individual colors of red, green or blue, or it can be combined to create full-color, high-resolution image displays. This type of liquid crystal display (LCD) technology has lower power consumption, faster response time, and a wider variety of brightness levels and lighting conditions than conventional LCD technology, said Eastman Kodak. It also has unrestricted viewing angles and a thinner design, the company said.
