Jenoptik Receives €5.5M Order from Rheinmetall

JENA, Germany, June 12, 2013 — The Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division has received a €5.5 million order from Rheinmetall AG of Düsseldorf, Germany, to supply 62 thermal imaging target acquisition systems and more than 300 laser rangefinders for German Armed Forces equipment upgrades.

Under the contract, Jenoptik will deliver 62 optronic systems from its Nyxus Bird series to Rheinmetall by the end of the first half of 2013. Nyxus Bird is a multifunctional handheld system comprising a thermal imager, a rangefinder, GPS, a digital compass, and day vision and infrared optics for day and night military surveillance.

The company also will supply more than 300 laser rangefinders from the company’s ELEM series over a period of three years. The erbium laser rangefinders provide eye-safe operation and long-distance measurement for multisensor platforms and fire control systems.
