In California, JDS Uniphase Corp. of San Jose has expanded its high-definition display business with the purchase of Advanced Digital Optics Inc. for approximately $12 million in cash. By acquiring the Westlake Village company, JDS will enhance its capabilities in the fabrication of light engines suitable for the high-definition television industry. The companies previously collaborated on the development of UltreX and DefiniTV light engines for the large-screen segment of the market. The engines are recognized for their performance in rear-projection televisions. In another transaction, JDS Uniphase has sold the assets of its molded-optics business unit in Santa Clara, Calif., for an undisclosed amount to Triformix Inc., a manufacturer of precision-molded optical components for the communications, digital imaging and instrumentation markets. Full-time employees of the unit will be offered jobs at Triformix, which is based in Santa Rosa.
