JDSU Expands to New Facility in Suzhou, China
MILPITAS, Calif., and SUZHOU, China, Nov. 15, 2010 — JDSU announced it has opened a new facility in Suzhou, China, to manufacture high-precision optical coatings for a variety of markets, including 3-D, gesture recognition, theater projection and sensing applications.
The company has committed more than $20 million to the facility to furnish a staff of over 50 employees, with the capacity to grow to more than 100 employees. It also includes new, state-of-the-art optical coating equipment.
The Suzhou site joins other major sites in Beijing, Shenzhen, Singapore, Tokyo and Penang. It will provide the company another base to expand its relationships with Asia-based customers and suppliers.
“The new Suzhou site provides a strategic platform for JDSU to grow our optical coatings business,” said Roy Bie, senior vice president and general manager of Advanced Optical Technologies at JDSU. “The combination of talented employees, specialized manufacturing processes and cutting-edge technology in Suzhou will ensure we meet the very precise specification and large volumes required for markets that use our optical coatings technology.”
JDSU has another optical coatings facility in Santa Rosa, Calif. with more than 300 employees that handle manufacturing, research and development, sales and marketing.
JDSU provides communications test and measurement solutions and optical products for telecommunications service providers, cable operators, network equipment manufacturers, enterprise customers and mobile operators.
