A federal lawsuit alleges that Electro Scientific Industries Inc. of Portland, Ore., has incorporated Cognex Corp.'s patented inspection technology in its CorrectPlace electronics manufacturing equipment. The lawsuit, which was filed by the Natick, Mass., company in US District Court in Massachusetts, alleges that the equipment infringes US Patent No. 5,371,690, which covers inspection of surface-mount devices. CorrectPlace is one of Electro Scientific's seven OEM industrial imaging products.
