IMRA Acquires Laser Machining License

In Ann Arbor, Mich., IMRA America Inc. has signed a licensing agreement with the University of Toronto that will grant the company rights to a method of micromachining with short-pulse lasers. The contract also will allow IMRA to sublicense the technology to its customers. The technique, called “burst ultrafast laser machining,” can be used to process brittle materials quickly.
