ILX Lightwave of Bozeman, Mont., has donated one of its LTS-9110 laser diode test systems to the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics on the campus of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Hubei, China. The system, which is capable of precision parametric characterization of laser diodes, was donated in conjunction with the company’s distribution partner in China, ETSC Technologies Co. of Hubei.

ILX Lightwave also has donated $10,000 worth of OMM 6810B series power and wavelength measurement instruments to the University of Colorado at Boulder. The university will use the advanced equipment, typically available only in industry laboratories, to initiate an undergraduate degree program in optics.

The gift is part of the company’s international program to assist colleges and universities in creating photonics programs. ILX intends to contribute $100,000 in equipment over the next five years.
