Hyperspectral Imaging

A $70,000 Small Business Innovation Research Phase 1 contract has been awarded by the US Navy to Bodkin Design & Engineering LLC of Newton, Mass. The company will develop a hyperspectral imaging system to be integrated into periscopes and photonic masts to perform contact recognition and identification in marine environments. The device will capture both spectral and spatial information in one video frame, eliminating motion artifacts.

Glossary
hyperspectral imaging
Hyperspectral imaging is an advanced imaging technique that captures and processes information from across the electromagnetic spectrum. Unlike traditional imaging systems that record only a few spectral bands (such as red, green, and blue in visible light), hyperspectral imaging collects data in numerous contiguous bands, covering a wide range of wavelengths. This extended spectral coverage enables detailed analysis and characterization of materials based on their spectral signatures. Key...
spectral
Pertaining to or as a function of wavelength. Spectral quantities are evaluated at a single wavelength.
