Hong Kong Optical Engineering Society Launched

The Hong Kong Optical Engineering Society (HKOES), formerly the Hong Kong Chapter of SPIE, was recenty launched as an independent professional society. The new group will focus on optics promotion in schools, promoting industry-education links and presenting seminars and courses to foster professional development in optics, said Chi-Man Fok, chairman of the HKOES board and a manager at Diffractive Optics Ltd. and Aspheric Optics. A new membership structure has been proposed to hongkong.jpginclude companies.

One project under discussion is Optics for Kids, an outreach effort for primary school students, which could be underway as soon as this summer. P. Mannion, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education; Chiu-Ngai (Ricky) Cheung, Chung Yat Optics Co. Ltd.
