Hitachi High-Tec Acquires PIC Manufacturer VLC Photonics
TOKYO, Nov. 12, 2020 — Hitachi High-Tec Corp. has acquired Valencia, Spain-based VLC Photonics SL, a designer and manufacturer of photonic integrated circuit (PIC) solutions and engineering services. VLC becomes a subsidiary company of Hitachi, a global provider of analytical and medical solutions, enhancing Hitachi’s comprehensive photonics capabilities across technology markets. In a shared press release announcing the acquisition, Hitachi and VLC said that beyond the optical communications market, PICs are emerging as a critical platform in automotive sensing, environmental testing, and quantum technology.
