RANKWEIL, Austria, Dec. 7, 2010 — High Q Laser Production GmbH and Swisstec AG of Schaan, Switzerland, announced their joint effort to serve the stent cutting market with compact cutting machines equipped with femtosecond laser sources.

In the field of stent cutting, Swisstec offers a complete palette of compact, high performance tube cutting systems that enable state-of-the-art industrial stent cutting at high speeds. In the future, the cutting systems can be equipped with High Q’s femtosecond laser sources for shorter interaction times with the material and high peak intensity.

Called “cold cutting,” pulse durations in the femtosecond time scale are enabled because material removal occurs faster than significant heat conduction. It offers cutting without any melting or burr formation at the edges, reducing the effort of further treatments of the stents to a minimum.
Swisstech manufactures high-end laser micromachining systems for precision cutting, drilling and welding of complex and intricate work pieces. Applications include medical device and aerospace and defense.
