Headwall Photonics Inc. has achieved a management buyout of the spectral module and holographic diffraction grating unit of Agilent Technologies in Fitchburg, Mass. Consisting of assets and funding totaling more than $8 million, the purchase included manufacturing assets, technology rights, supplier agreements and a customer base.

Originally American Holographic, which Agilent purchased in 2000, the grating unit provides optical technologies that manage wavelengths for applications in the life sciences, telecommunications and analytical test and measurement fields. Headwall will maintain its existing 20,000-sq-ft facility, almost half of which has certified ISO 9001:2000 cleanroom manufacturing capability.
