HaydonKerk Motion Solutions, a maker of linear motion products, announced the availability of its new product catalog and design guide. The 190-page publication is the first comprehensive listing of HaydonKerk products since Waterbury, Conn.-based Haydon Switch and Instrument acquired Kerk Motion Products Inc. of Hollis, N.H., in May 2008. The company has also unveiled a new Web site; visitors to www.haydonkerk.com can find information about HaydonKerk linear motion products as well as technical advice. The company offers precision leadscrew and antibacklash nut assemblies, stepper motor-based linear actuators, and linear rail and guide systems for laboratory automation, medical instrumentation, semiconductor fabrication, and military, aerospace and industrial applications.

Glossary
linear motion
Linear motion is the movement of an object or particle along a straight path in a single direction. It is one of the simplest forms of motion, described by parameters such as displacement, velocity, and acceleration, all of which occur along a single axis. Characteristics of linear motion include: Displacement: The distance an object moves along a straight line from its initial position to its final position. Velocity: The rate at which an object changes its position, typically...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
stepper motor
A positioning drive that rotates a fraction of a 360° turn when the motor coils are activated, resulting in linear or rotary motion. They are generally one of two types, either variable reluctance or permanent magnet; the characteristics are much the same. Also called stepping motors.
