The US Army has awarded Gyrocam Systems LLC of Sarasota, Fla., a $302 million contract for Phase II of the Vehicle Optic Sensor System program, a network of night vision, day and thermal imaging cameras used by the US military to locate and suppress the threats of improvised explosive devices. The company will deliver 500 additional cameras and provide support services in Iraq and Afghanistan. The equipment is designed to enhance situational awareness. Gyrocam integrates ground-based gyrostabilized camera systems for the military and other sectors.
