Growing Demand Prompts Lensar to Expand

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug 5, 2013 — Lensar Inc., a laser systems developer for refractive cataract surgery, is significantly expanding its sales force and global distribution to better handle demand, the company said Monday.

Lensar's laser system gives cataract surgeons the ability to bladelessly make precise cuts and incisions in the cornea during surgery. Its augmented reality (AR) technology provides exact biometric data points of each patient's eye to create a 3-D model of the anterior anatomy so that every laser pulse can be precisely placed, the company said. As with a CAT scan, the AR imaging system rotates while scanning the eye to clearly and accurately identify all ocular structures.

"The Lensar laser system is taking cataract surgery to the next level with optimal clinical outcomes, and we're responding by expanding our commercial presence and distribution to meet demand," said Lensar CEO Nick Curtis.
