Goodrich to Design Sensor for Space
An imaging sensor made by Goodrich Corp. of Charlotte, N.C., will be modified for use in space. The company was awarded a contract by the US Naval Research Laboratory to adapt its electro-optic sensor, currently employed in U2 surveillance planes, for use as a space payload. The research and design work to adapt it for space use is being done at the company’s plant in Danbury, Conn. From a low orbit, the sensor will provide 1-m resolution over 11-km-wide swaths.
