ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 29, 2010 — Gooch & Housego, formerly ChromoDynamics, announced that its Life Sciences Div. was awarded a grant for $244,479 under the qualified therapeutic discovery project program of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The grant will support continued development of a novel cervical cancer assay, including both PAP stain and multiple-biomarker labeling using an automated hyperspectral imaging slide reader based on the company’s proprietary HSi-300 acousto-optic imaging system.

Gooch & Housego manufactures precision optical components based upon key enabling technologies, including precision, acousto, electro and fiber optics, optical coatings, RF electronics and single-crystal growth.

Glossary
electro-optics
1. The branch of physics that deals with the use of electrical energy to create or manipulate light waves, generally by changing the refractive index of a light-propagating material; 2. Collectively, the devices used to affect the intersection of electrical energy and light. Compare with optoelectronics.
hyperspectral imaging
Hyperspectral imaging is an advanced imaging technique that captures and processes information from across the electromagnetic spectrum. Unlike traditional imaging systems that record only a few spectral bands (such as red, green, and blue in visible light), hyperspectral imaging collects data in numerous contiguous bands, covering a wide range of wavelengths. This extended spectral coverage enables detailed analysis and characterization of materials based on their spectral signatures. Key...
optical coatings
Optical coatings are thin layers of materials applied to optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, filters, and prisms, to modify their reflective and transmissive properties. These coatings are designed to enhance the performance of optical systems by controlling the way light interacts with the surfaces of the components. The primary purposes of optical coatings include: Antireflection coating: This type of coating is designed to reduce reflections from the surfaces of optical...
