KANATA, Ontario, Canada, June 28 -- GSI Lumonics Inc. has gotten more than $3 million in orders for its GS600 laser drilling system, the company said. Viasystems Group Inc., an international provider of electronics manufacturing services to telecommunications and networking industries, placed the orders. The drilling systems will be set up at Viasystems' locations around the world, including North America, Europe and China. Shipments of the drilling systems will go out this year, said GSI Lumonics. Manufacturing capacity for high-density interconnect circuit boards is expanding worldwide in response to the growth of mobile telecommunications and other advanced electronics products said Charles Winston, president and CEO of GSI Lumonics. We have been collaborating with Viasystems since the early days of laser-based technology for micro-via PCB drilling, and we are very pleased that they have selected GSI Lumonics as their supplier to meet the needs of their planned expansion.
