Brookhaven National Laboratory of Upton, N.Y., has been selected by the US Department of Energy (DoE) to be home to one of the 46 new Energy Frontier Research Centers. The centers will pursue advanced scientific research on energy and are being established at universities, national laboratories, nonprofit organizations and private firms across the US. The DOE plans to fund each center at $2 million to $5 million per year for an initial five-year period.
