After a year hiatus in Seattle, The International Symposium on Optical Science and Technology, SPIE's 48th Annual Meeting, will be held August 3-8 at the San Diego Convention Center, in San Diego, Calif. Despite economic challenges worldwide, technological innovations and investment in optics and photonics continue.
Meet with the researchers, scientists, engineers, managers and end users from over 40 countries who are forging new innovations in optics, materials, remote sensing and others, and be one of 5,000 delegates who will discuss the latest scientific advances and help push back the frontiers with new and proven optics and photonics-based applications.
Attend SPIE's Annual Meeting and take advantage of the opportunity to network with other members and keep abreast of changes in your industry. With a technical focus on optical programs, the meeting will feature expanded astronomy and remote sensing programs and numerous new short courses.
Maintaining SPIE's commitment to providing the high-quality service and cutting-edge technical information, SPIE's Annual Meeting also serves as an industry focal point, offering interaction with the vendor community, who will be exhibiting their newest product developments.

Glossary
astronomy
The scientific observation of celestial radiation that has reached the vicinity of Earth, and the interpretation of these observations to determine the characteristics of the extraterrestrial bodies and phenomena that have emitted the radiation.
metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
