Former JDSU president Charles J. Abbe has joined the board of directors at photonic integrated circuits manufacturer NeoPhotonics, the company announced. Abbe served as president, chief operating officer and director of JDS Uniphase (JDSU) Corp. from February 2000 until his retirement in 2001. Prior to that, he held various executive positions at Optical Coating Laboratory Inc. before it was acquired by JDSU in February 2000 for $2.8 billion. (See: JDS Uniphase, E-Tek Announce Merger Agreement) From 1990 to 1996, he held various positions at Raychem Corp., and before that he was a business consultant with McKinsey & Co in San Francisco. He began his career with the US Air Force Rocket Propulsion Laboratory in Edwards. Abbe was the director of Opnext Inc. from January 2009 until its acquisition by Oclaro Inc. in July 2012, and he has been a director of Cymer Inc. since 2002.
