Flir Systems to Develop Sensor for US Army

Flir Systems Inc. of Portland, Ore., has received a contract valued at approximately $13 million from the US Army Research Development & Engineering Command to develop a stabilized electro-optical system for use on lightweight unmanned aerial vehicles. The thermal imaging system is expected to offer long-range performance, color visible imaging and advanced laser capabilities. Work under the three-year, Phase II award is being performed at the company's plant in Billerica, Mass.
