The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded Flir Systems Inc. of Portland, Ore., a contract of more than $12 million. The firm will supply the Royal Air Force with the Star-Q multisensor airborne imaging systems to upgrade the SeaKing search-and-rescue helicopter fleet.The Royal Australian Air Force has granted the company a contract of more than $4 million to provide Safire II airborne imaging systems for its P-3C fixed-wing aircraft for long-range surveillance and other missions. Flir will partner with Hawker Pacific, BAE Systems and Tenix Defence Australia for installation and maintenance.Also, several government end users have awarded Flir contracts totaling more than $9 million for the ThermoVision Sentry, a ground-based perimeter security system, and for the MilCam XP and MilCam Recon handheld reconnaissance and surveillance thermal imaging systems.
