The market research company DisplaySearch has released the Quarterly Worldwide Flat Panel Forecast Report for the third quarter of 2007; it indicates that revenues from flat panel displays increased 15 percent from the previous quarter. The majority of this growth came from LCD TV and mobile phone panels. PC notebook panel revenues are expected to continue increasing while monitor panel sales decline. Thin-film transistor LCD technologies accounted for 90.1 percent of the revenue and are forecasted to increase 14 percent over the next year to $103.9 billion. In contrast, sales of cathode-ray tube technologies are predicted to fall 21 percent to $4 billion in 2008 as use of flat panel displays becomes more widespread. The report predicts that OLED sales will more than double over the next year, rising from an estimated $0.7 billion in 2007 to nearly $1.7 billion in 2008.
